The Bethesda Big Train are proud to bring back the Big Train Summer Baseball Camp in 2024 for its 25th summer of affordable fun for kids ages 5-12.
Big Train Manager and Director of Baseball Operations Sal Colangelo runs the camp. Coach Sal is a legend in collegiate summer baseball. He has been named the Maryland State Amateur Coach of the Year by the Maryland State Association of Baseball Coaches and the Cal Ripken Senior Collegiate Baseball League (CRSCBL) Manager of the Year. He has led the Big Train to TEN CRSCBL titles, including five straight from 2016-2021 and in 2023! He was also inducted to the CRSCBL Hall of Fame in the 2019 inaugural class. Big Train Associate Head Coach Galvin Morris directors the camp's day-to-day operations in close conjunction with Sal. Coaches Sal and Galvin's star-studded roster of college players from around the country will be the instructors each week at the Big Train Summer Baseball Camp, teaching kids ages 5-12 the FUNdamentals of baseball. Some of the best collegiate talent comes to play for the Big Train and more than 150 Big Train alumni have been drafted by Major League teams while 23 have made it to the Big Leagues! Those 23 include current major leaguers Hunter Brown (Astros), Ty France and Logan Gilbert (Mariners), Joe Mantiply (D-Backs), Brandon Lowe (Rays), Ken Waldichuk (A's), Alec Burleson (Cardinals), James Outman (Dodgers), and Nolan Schanuel (Angels)! This means your camper's instructor could soon be a major leaguer!
All campers at the Big Train Summer Baseball Camp will receive excellent instruction in all the fundamentals of the game and get the opportunity to play in a live game each day. Along with our General Camp, which is for kids of all ages and abilities, we also offer specialized camp sessions including Advanced Development Camp, Pitching Camp, and Catching Camp, all of which are for older and more experienced 9-12 year olds. More information on each is below.
Each camper who attends Big Train Summer Baseball Camp will receive an official camp t-shirt that gets them free admission to all Big Train home games at Shirley Povich Field during the 2024 regular season, which is the Big Train's 25th Anniversary Season. Tickets should be reserved online in advance of each game.
